World Kindness Day is celebrated on the 13th of November every year across the world. Sometimes in life we find it easier to be kind to others, than we do to give that same kindness to ourselves. So, this World Kindness Day we’ve chosen to focus on simple ways that you can be kinder to yourself in your everyday life.
Positive Affirmations
This might sound really daunting but really it’s as simple as making sure you are always your own biggest cheerleader. Instead of always putting yourself down or comparing yourself to others, remember there is only one you! When you start to think more positively about yourself, you will be surprised what doors can open for you. You just need to take that first initial step and change your mindset.
The benefits of a bath
Taking time out to have a leisurely bath can be really beneficial to your body and mind. The warm water helps calm your mind, while being in your own home creates a place of familiar surroundings and comfort. It has also been shown that a bath can improve your sleep, circulation and even relief tension in your muscles and detoxify your skin especially when adding a scented bath foam or salts to your water.
A Mindful Walk
We hear it all the time that getting outside does us the world of good, but it’s so hard to find the time in our busy lives to enjoy the benefits of a short walk. But after just 30 minutes of walking and spending that time outdoors you can start to feel the abundance of benefits for your mental wellbeing. A breath of fresh air can clear your mind and help in making decisions, big or small, and with the delightful distractions of nature you can switch off for a short time and think about yourself and what you want. Not only are you exercising your body, you’re taking a step away from the stresses of everyday life and giving yourself a deserved moment of calm.
Journaling
Journaling is an effective practice and can help you reach both short- and long-term goals. Most importantly, it can help you keep your mind clear by getting your thoughts out of your busy brain and onto a piece of paper.
Doing this can also help you notice some important ties between your behaviours and feelings, which can help you make some positive changes in your life.
A good nights sleep.
Getting a good night sleep can be just the ticket for a fully recharged you, so you can be the best version of yourself. Make sure you have no distractions in your bedroom for example, televisions, devices or lights, this allows you to unwind and let your mind stop racing. Opting for a book before bed might be a better practice than constant flickering images. Avoiding alcohol and stimulants and giving yourself 3 to 4 hours before sleeping allows your food to digest, these are all good habits for uninterrupted sleep. By creating a solid routine, you can be on track to a better sleep cycle and improve your sleep leading to a more rested you.
