Tips for Sleeping Well During the Summer Months

As the summer months bring longer days and higher temperatures, many find it challenging to get a good night’s sleep.

Here are some practical tips and natural remedies to help you stay cool and rested this season.

Keep Your Bedroom Cool

It sounds obvious, but keeping the temperature of your bedroom low is key to a good night’s sleep. Hanging a damp sheet in front of an open window or making sure that your bedroom curtains or blinds are closed throughout the day are easy ways to keep your room cool. If your bedroom is still too warm, you can always place your pillowcases in the fridge and enjoy the refreshing coolness as soon as your face touches the pillow.

Choose Breathable Bedding

Don’t forget to change the tog on your duvet to a summer weight or opt for cotton or linen bed sheets instead of heavy fabrics. Sometimes, if the temperature soars, a light sheet instead of a duvet altogether can be just right. Also, look out for pillows designed to stay cool, such as those made with gel or memory foam that promote a cooling airflow.

Preparing for bed

Once you feel confident that your bedroom temperature is more manageable and your bedsheets are suited for summer, wearing loose-fitting, lightweight pyjamas made from natural fibres such as cotton or bamboo is the natural next step to a staying cool. When choosing your pyjamas, remember that the less fabric covering your body allowing heat to escape, helping you stay comfortable throughout the night. A camisole, shorts or night dress would be a great pyjamas choice.

Why not also have a cold shower before putting on your sleepwear, giving an extra layer of coolness, making sure the cold water hit your pressure points that help cool your internal temperature. E.g. neck, wrists, feet, temples.

Introduce some natural remedies to your routine

Lavender, geranium and peppermint are known for their calming and cooling properties. Introducing their scents into your sleep routine, will help bring a level of soothing and comfort. A spritz of lavender mist on your pillow or diluted peppermint or geranium oil on your temples and wrists, can help you drift off more easily and enjoy a restful night’s sleep.

Just returned from a wonderful three nights stay with you. Best nights sleep ever. Please advise which mattresses you use in your beds. I was in a twin room (room 93)
