Ragdale’s skincare tips for Autumn/Winter

Orange and crimson crunchy leaves on the ground, the smell of bonfire, comforting food and colder nights drawing in – autumn has definitely arrived.

The change in season can have an impact on our skin; from harsh winds and dropping temperatures, to the contrast of the central heating, and even UV rays, our skin goes through a lot! In this blog, we’re giving you some useful hints and tips to care for your skin and give it some much-needed TLC.

Layer up

Just like you would wrap up warm for winter, we should also treat our skin in the same way. Instead of just opting for a thicker moisturiser (which may clog up our pores), we should use a series of lighter layers, such as hyaluronic acid and serums. The best order is to cleanse using warm water to open the pores, following it up by using a toner – which will then close the pores, then apply a serum, and finally moisturise to keep skin hydrated throughout the day.

Control the temperature

When winter strikes, it can be hard to resist turning the heating up to the max, whether in the home or in the car. However, this can cause dry skin by dissolving the skins natural protective barrier. Opt for a warm (but not scorching) temperature instead as this will be kinder on the skin. The same also applies for baths and showers – stick to a gentle warm temperature and ensure to use a nourishing moisturiser afterwards.

Stay hydrated

It’s important to drink enough water throughout the day to help keep your skin refreshed and hydrated. Pop yourself a little reminder if you struggle to keep your water bottle topped up.

Wear SPF all year round

Even though we are getting much less sun than we would in the warmer months, our skin can still be damaged by UV rays all year round. We recommend investing in a good quality moisturiser with SPF, to protect your skin and sit well under make-up.

Autumn-inspired food

What we eat on the inside, we wear on the outside. It can be beneficial to incorporate delicious and healthy foods into our diets, so that we can reap the rewards of a healthy, glowing complexion! Autumn is the harvest season, and with it comes plenty of fresh, nutrient-dense produce. Beta-carotene, which is found in some vegetables, can help to aid cell renewal so definitely stock up on plenty of butternut squash and pumpkins. These squashes contain high levels of beta-carotene and can also help collagen production – you could even get creative and make a warming soup!

Treat your skin…

A facial isn’t just beneficial for your skin, it also offers a blissful chance to relax and be pampered! If you’re struggling to choose, we’d recommend going for a more hydrating option to see you through the colder months.
