Treat your feet this National Reflexology Week

For those who don’t know it’s National Reflexology week, which aims to raise awareness of all the benefits this ancient holistic treatment has to offer. This touch therapy is based on the theory that parts of the body correspond with certain pressure points in the feet and are believed to relieve stress, tension and optimise your health.

Reflexology is a form of therapy that dates back hundreds of years and was first practised in China, India and Ancient Egypt. To most it’s considered as a fancy foot treatment, but in this blog we look closely into this type of therapy and share the physical and spiritual benefits of reflexology.

In a warm, low lit treatment room, our Holistic Therapist makes sure you are comfortable while gently cleansing your feet. Using a silky-smooth oil with the familiar smell of lavender and tea-tree, known for its relaxing properties, the therapist explains that she will begin with the right foot, to follow the natural flow of the body.  Working from right to left is believed to engage the internal organs, then as the therapist slowly drifts to the left, it is said to focus on matters of the heart and rid you of any negative energies which might be obstructing your positive auras.

During this 70-minute treatment, each part of your foot in meticulously worked through using many different pressures. It is written that the feet, hands, ears, and the face are connected to certain points in the sole of your foot and with the right pressure applied, tension and stress are relieved and your immune system, plus overall general health can be improved with frequent sessions. Different pressures make the body respond in different ways and has been scientifically proven that the entire nervous system tends to be driven by outside factors, which includes touch.  People who attend these sessions regularly find they are lighter, more balanced and are in less discomfort and pain, with some saying it has eased issues like migraines, arthritis and back ache.

With the added layer of a classic relaxing treatment using luxurious products and an ambient setting, you can start to feel the effects of this ancient treatment whether it be to relax or restore your inner balance.
