Top tips to keeping your skin glowing this winter

Once the temperature drops and the evenings are dark and dreary, we naturally all start to dig out the jumpers and woolly hats to layer up, but we also need to remember to layer up our skincare products too! Our skin might not be at the forefront of our mind but it is always at the forefront of the winter cold. In this blog we have put together some easy tips to keep your skin protected and glowing this winter.

It’s all about layers

Many shy away from the idea of using layers of products as no one wants to clog their pores with thick moisturiser and oils, but just like layering clothes for winter, using a series of lighter layers to help combat the elements helps for a clearer looking complexion.

  • When cleansing, opt for a product which protects the skins’ natural oils, rather than a harsh blend which will strip them away, keeping your skin replenished.
  • Use a gentle toner, and follow up with a hydrating face mist to top up your skins moisture levels. When the skin is hydrated with a toner, ingredients in your moisturiser can penetrate the skin and work more effectively, locking in the goodness and active ingredients.
  • For an extra boost, or if you have naturally quite dry skin, you could always add a drop of facial oil to your moisturiser or night cream as part of your winter skincare routine, and reap the rewards of nourished, hydrated skin!

Control the temperature

When winter strikes, it can be hard to resist turning the heating up to the max, whether in the home or in the car. However, this can cause dry skin by dissolving the skins natural protective barrier. Opt for a warm temperature instead as this will be kinder on the skin. The same also applies for baths and showers – stick to a gentle warm temperature and ensure to use a nourishing moisturiser afterwards.

Always wear SPF

It’s easy to be reminded to protect your skin when the sun is shining, but did you know that you can still cause skin damage during the winter months as UV rays are present all year round. We recommend investing or continue to use SPF on its own or combined with a good quality moisturiser to protect your skin even when the sun doesn’t shine.

Stay hydrated

We know that water is great to keep your body and mind in good working condition and this of course extends to your skin too! It’s important to drink enough water throughout the day to help keep your skin refreshed and hydrated, if you struggle just drinking water on its own, adding lemon is another benefit as it can help digestion, and if consumed regularly helps fight inflammation too!

Lip care

Using a moisturizing lip balm throughout the day helps to prevent chapped lips and keep your lips soft. The best practise to avoid painful lips is to always carry a tube of your favourite lip balm to reapply as often as you need. If you’re going out in extreme cold, try not to lick you lips as the cold winds will lead to over exposure and dry cracked lips.
