Once you’ve decided on your goals and written them down, keep re-reading them and adjust if necessary. You’ve set yourself a realistic timeframe for each goal, so now you can start moving towards them.

If you’re not sure where you’re going, you may not like where you end up! This is why you took time to picture exactly what you wanted to achieve and what it’ll feel like. When times are hard, take a moment to yourself, breathe slowly, close your eyes and picture that feeling again. Often, it’s all the stimulus you need to get back on track.

Let’s Go

It’s time to move. Thinking about doing it is the difficult part, it’s always easier once you get going!  Ever had a day when the journey to the gym was harder than the workout?  Now you’ve made a start – keep up the good work!

Always Progressing

Regularly check that what you’re doing is taking you closer to your goals.  If not, you need to adapt your programme. Try to do at least a little something daily towards reaching your goals.

You CAN Do It

From the outside, life will present you with obstacles, which you have to find ways around.  However, we also sabotage our progress from the inside with the voice that says, “you’ll never make it”, or that perverse part of our nature that holds us back from doing whatever it takes to move on.  You have to beat this self-defeating behaviour by replacing it with thoughts that are more constructive.  When lying in bed at night develop your own mantra to support your efforts each day.  “I can do it!”

Spend time with positive people. Whether that’s friends who support and encourage you, or colleagues who motivate, they’ll all prove invaluable in your desire to move on up.  Sharing your workouts with someone can also be fun and you can inspire each other to keep going.

Talking of other people, if you know someone who has already achieved what you’re setting out to do, decide if what worked for them will work for you.  By adopting their habits, you may save yourself time.  Their efforts will have taken some of the trial and error out for you.

Live and Learn

There’ll still be times when things don’t go according to plan, and you don’t move on as much as you would like.  If you’ve lost your focus, go back and look at your goals, thinking about how much you’ll enjoy achieving them will put you back in the game.  If it’s a mistake that’s getting you down, try thinking of it as a result you created through a certain action.  If you change the action, you’ll create a new result.

Set Sail

So, will you step out of your comfort zone and take a chance?  Yes, there may be something to lose, but compare that with everything there is to gain.  Remember: you cannot discover new oceans until you have courage to lose sight of the shore.

Back to the Future

Look forward to the next three months and imagine yourself reflecting back on them and feeling proud of all you’ve achieved.  Doesn’t it feel great?  Aren’t you glad you made that extra effort?  Now bring yourself back to the present ... are you ready to really go for it?

Let the games begin!
