Natural ways to boost your energy
Feeling sluggish? Whether you’re working from home, or in the office, it’s natural for our energy levels to decline throughout the day. Here, we share our top tips for overcoming the dreaded afternoon slump and to give your energy levels a much-needed pick me up.
Stretch it out
We’re physical beings, and how we feel is often directly connected to our current physical state. If we’re sitting down all day, being inactive can make us feel that way too; lethargic, with decreased motivation. To beat this, take regular breaks; get up from your desk and walk around, or do some really basic stretches- (check out our other blog on chair exercises here). Not only will this give your eyes a rest from the computer, but you’ll be invigorating your body and mind too.
Fuel your body- the right way
When you’re feeling lethargic, your body might be more likely to crave foods which are high in saturated fat and sugar. While this may give you an instant energy boost, the effects might not be long lasting. Try a healthy, but delicious alternative instead, such as apple slices or a banana with peanut butter. (Stay tuned for our upcoming blog for a Ragdale-inspired healthy snack recipe!)
Stay hydrated
If you’re feeling tired, it might be tempting to reach for a really big cup of strong coffee. However, as dehydration can be a leading cause of fatigue, it’s so important to drink water throughout the day, alongside or even instead of your usual hot beverage. Why not invest in a re-usable water bottle if you haven’t already, keeping it topped up as a reminder to drink throughout the day.

Spend time outdoors
If you’re working from home, chances are the lack of commute means you’re spending less time outside. This could be impacting your energy levels, because nature has a huge impact on our vitality. If the weather allows (which, in England, can be tricky), it’s important to prioritise some time every day for a walk, even if it’s only ten minutes around the block on your lunch break, as spending time with nature will boost your energy levels and help you to feel more refreshed, ready to take on the rest of the day.
