Stay motivated and achieve your fitness goals for 2023

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, it’s hard to commit to being active, eat healthy and stay focused to achieve our fitness goals. In this blog our resident Health and Fitness consultant, Dean Hodgkin, identifies the best practises to keep us motivated and help achieve positive results to a happier and healthy you.

  • Simply re-set your body clock to get up 30 minutes earlier three or four times per week to exercise. You will quickly adjust and find the early morning exercise endorphin boost gives you more If you want to improve your health then simply adding more general activity to your day will help you to achieve it even if you don’t do a structured exercise plan. So, walk the stairs and ditch the escalators and lift, leave your car behind or at least park it further away from your destination and take a power walk during your lunch break.

  • Due to the pandemic we now have an almost endless choice of workout that can be viewed directly to your TV, laptop or phone. Pick the ones that offer a free trial and enjoy the process of finding the trainers and sessions you like best.

  • The wide choice of treadmills, cycles and rowers, designed specifically for the domestic market, enables you to get started from home without too much cost, at your own pace and in private.

  • Buying the right kit, that fits right and is breathable will help you feel the part and more self-confident when working out.

  • Banish feelings of self-consciousness by reminding yourself of the benefits you are achieving with every session, the more you exercise the more confident you will feel.

  • If exercise is a chore rather than a pleasure it is quite likely you will soon start to lose motivation. So why not partner your passion for dance with a dance class or meditation with a yoga or stretch class, making it something to look forward to rather than shy away from.

  • Shout out your goals – Tell everyone around you about your fitness goals and how important they are to you. Tell them how much their support means to you and even encourage them to join you on your journey.

  • Make sure you are surrounding yourself with positive influencers and people who support what you are trying to achieve, this will give you the best success rate for your health and fitness journey.

  • Exercising with friends, family or colleagues is often more fun than by yourself and having made a commitment to meet them to exercise together you’re less likely to make excuses not to go.

  • If you do your favourite workout week in week out you’ll almost certainly get bored and lose motivation. Rotate your workouts as not only will this help to develop all-round fitness but will ensure you continue to challenge yourself and enjoy your exercise.

  • As crazy as it sounds most people fail to achieve results simply due to failing to set goals at the outset
