How to Prepare the Perfect CV – Advice from our Treatments Recruitment Supervisor, Mhairi

As the Treatments Recruitment Supervisor at Ragdale Hall Spa, I review hundreds of applications from beauty students and newly qualified therapists each year. Many of you have fantastic potential, creative talent, enthusiasm, and genuine passion for the industry. However, what often makes the biggest difference in securing an interview is how well you present yourself on paper.

Your CV is your first opportunity to show me who you are, not just as a student, but as a future professional therapist. Below, I’m sharing my insider advice to help beauty students create applications that truly stand out.

What I Look For in a Beauty CV

  1. Professional and Clear Contact Details

Start simple but strong:

  • Full name
  • Phone number
  • Professional email

First impressions matter. Keep your contact details clean and professional.

  1. A Strong Personal Profile

This is one of the first things I read. Make it short, confident, and relevant.

A good profile might say:
“A dedicated Beauty Therapy student with practical training in skincare, massage, and customer service. Passionate about delivering exceptional treatments and creating a relaxing client experience. Eager to develop further within a luxury spa environment.”

This tells me who you are and why you’re a good fit for Ragdale Hall Spa.

  1. Your Training and Qualifications

As a spa prioritising exceptional standards, I want to clearly see:

  • Your current course (e.g., Level 2/3 Beauty Therapy)
  • Key practical skills (facials, massage, manicure/pedicure, body treatments)
  • Health & safety knowledge
  • Any distinctions, certificates, or additional workshops

Don’t be afraid to showcase your strengths, attention to detail is part of the job.

  1. Salon or Treatment Skills

List the skills you feel confident performing. I look for clear evidence of:

  • Treatment competence
  • Hygiene standards
  • Knowledge of professional products
  • Understanding of client care and consultation

What matters most is honesty, tell me what you can do, not what you hope you can do.

  1. Work Experience & Transferable Skills

Many students think non-beauty work experience is irrelevant…it isn’t!

Roles in retail, hospitality, or customer service show me:

  • You can communicate well
  • You’re organised and reliable
  • You know how to handle clients professionally

These qualities are essential in a luxury spa setting.

  1. Presentation & Layout

A CV that’s clean, modern, and easy to read always stands out.

Avoid:

  • Bright colours
  • Decorative fonts
  • Large blocks of text

Aim for:

  • One page
  • Clear headings
  • Consistency

Your CV should reflect the professionalism expected in a high-end spa.

Starting your career in the beauty industry is exciting, and creating a strong CV is your first step into the world of professional spa therapy. When you apply to Ragdale Hall Spa, I want to see your potential, your skill, your professionalism, and your passion for making people feel their best.

If you take the time to present yourself thoughtfully, you will already be ahead of many applicants.
