Hannah celebrates 25-year work anniversary!
This month, our Senior Treatments Manager Hannah Farrell-Wall celebrated her 25th work anniversary!
Hannah began her career Ragdale Hall as a beauty therapist in 1994. After spending some time as a nanny in New Zealand upon leaving school, Hannah returned to the UK and enrolled in a three-year hair and beauty course. Following a short period of time working in a local salon, Hannah spotted an advert in a beauty magazine for a beauty therapist position at Ragdale Hall, and the rest, as they say, is history…
Hannah said: “I was really drawn to Ragdale because it had (and still has!) an excellent reputation, and I’d always wanted to work in a bigger salon so I could learn a more diverse range of treatments and techniques for my own personal development.
“When I joined the beauty team I signed up to as many training courses as I could, and within 12 months I was trained in all the product houses which included Decleor, Clarins, Guinot, Kanebo and Spa Find to name but a few. Soon after, I was promoted to a senior beauty therapist, where I took on a little more admin and worked front of house on the Treatments reception desk – at a time when we had no computers, it was quite a challenging role coordinating treatment times for a team of therapists!
Alongside Treatment reception duties, Hannah also worked in the Beauty Shop, Treatment Scheduling and Health Departments, where all day and residential guests had their blood pressure taken and were weighed on arrival.
In the 1990’s Ragdale had three treatment rooms which had multiple treatment couches which were separated with curtains for guest’s privacy. In those days treatments were much more results-driven, as opposed to pampering!
“Guests would be measured before and after in treatments such as Ionithermie and Spa Find Inchwrap. They were padded up in Ionithermie whilst electrical currents targeted weak muscles and cellulite, layered in clay until it hardened, or wrapped in cellophane and put into a body suit in our then popular Inch Wrap treatment– the results would show inch loss.”
“We also offered holistic treatments, such as reiki and reflexology, and our Sun Centre was really popular – in fact, at one point all of our day guest packages included a facial tanner.”
It was in the year 2000 when the treatment offering at Ragdale grew, almost doubling the size of its operation with an additional 18 treatment rooms. Hannah soon flew up the ranks and took on more responsibility overseeing the treatments department as Senior Treatments Manager.
“The treatment room extension was a huge project for us, and an exciting one. With the addition of more rooms, the beauty therapy team expanded, and it gave us a real opportunity to develop our treatment offering to guests. It was a time of change – but all for the good.
“It’s been really interesting to see how the beauty industry has changed over the years, and it’s been fantastic to have played a part in shaping the industry as it is today. Back when I was training in college, I would never have imagined that 25-years later I’d be where I am today – I think that’s the wonderful thing about Ragdale, and testament to working for a nurturing business that is just filled with development opportunities.
“After 25-years, I have to say my favourite part of the job has to be the people. I know it’s perhaps cliché, but Ragdale really is like a big family and I feel so lucky to have been able to work alongside some incredibly talented people for 10-20 years, while all under the guidance of a fantastic leadership team.”
Hannah has been steering the innovative treatment offering at Ragdale for more than 10-years, and also heads up the recruitment of beauty therapists and new treatment development. But when she’s not doing that, she can be found immersed in her passion for holistic therapies (as a Reiki Master no less) and developing her skills and technique as a yoga professional.
Congratulations Hannah, from all of your colleagues, friends and guests at Ragdale!
