International Women’s Day 2021

It’s International Women’s Day on the 8th March, and this year their theme is ‘choose to challenge’. It’s undoubtedly been a challenging year for all of us, but we’ve gotten through it collectively, and if there’s any takeaway it’s that we are definitely stronger together.

International Women's Day

When we think of the word ‘challenge’, often this comes with negative connotations such as confrontation, and this can sometimes be an uncomfortable feeling. But it’s only when we confront and challenge something, that we can start to really make positive changes in our lives. Whether this is challenging limiting thoughts and beliefs about ourselves; challenging the way we react to situations, or even our lifestyles – change is always possible, but we need to be clear with ourselves about it first and really think about what it is that’s holding us back. With this in mind, always remember to be kind and patient with yourself and take it one day at a time – change doesn’t happen overnight!

Be honest with yourself

It could be anything – maybe you’re not managing to get enough sleep at night and feeling groggy throughout the day, so you might need to challenge your bedtime ritual. What does your bedtime ritual consist of? Are you spending too much time on your phone or laptop which could disturb your body’s natural sleep/wake cycle? Do you practice yoga before bed to unwind and relax from the day? Are you drinking too much coffee or having caffeine in the evening? Do you use a pillow mist, or keep a Lavender plant? It helps to be honest with yourself about what you’re doing (or not doing!) and then you can really start to implement change.

Make a list

Never underestimate the power of list-making. Sometimes, just thinking about things might not be enough and may not give you the clarity you’re looking for. It can sometimes be useful (and even cathartic) to write everything down, and seeing it written out in a physical form can help with manifestation. Make a list of everything you’d like to challenge, and then start thinking of positive ways you can put your words into action!

Celebrate your success

We’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions, and we all have a choice to seek out and celebrate our achievements. Now more than ever it’s so important to reward yourself even for the small wins and little victories, even if it’s just getting through the day or going out for that walk you promised yourself. These are hard times, so let’s be a little bit easier on ourselves. You’re doing great!

Spread the word

Last, but by no means least – is spreading positivity and practicing gratitude. If you think your friend is doing a great job, let them know by sending an uplifting message. If you’re grateful for a strong woman in your life, tell them! From sending a card, some flowers, their favourite chocolates or just letting them know you care, a small gesture of kindness can go a long way. After all, we are all #inthistogether
