Aromatherapy Awareness Week

This week marks Aromatherapy Awareness Week, (7th– 13th June), and to honour this week of wellbeing we are exploring the summery blend of Ylang Ylang, plus sharing some of the incredible health benefits of aromatherapy.

What is Ylang Ylang?

Ylang Ylang is a yellow star-shaped flower, native to Indonesia. Simply add a few drops to your diffuser and let its naturally soothing properties and floral notes whisk you away to somewhere warm and exotic.

What are the benefits?

This sweet, exotic essential oil can help calm feelings of anxiety, frustration, anger and fear, and help to replace them with a sense of peacefulness, calm and trust. Although soft and floral-scented, this is still an incredibly powerful essential oil which may help to relax the nervous system, lower blood pressure and reduce some symptoms of pain by releasing endorphins.

How can I use it?

  • If you have a diffuser, add around 4-5 drops and let the sweet, summery aroma work its magic. This essential oil also works well blended with other scents such as orange, lemon, jasmine or lavender.
  • Add a few drops to your bath to help you relax and unwind.
  • Surprisingly, Ylang Ylang may even be good for your hair, too! Try adding a few drops to your shampoo and conditioner for luscious locks.
  • If using directly on the skin, ensure to use a carrier oil and avoid using if you have sensitive skin.
