2019 fitness trends to look out for

  1. Wearable technology

In today’s society technology is a must-have in our everyday lives – from staying in touch with friends and family, waking us up in the morning and storing our life’s memories in photos and videos. So, it’s no surprise to hear that wearable tech can be an invaluable tool for those looking to get and stay physically active.

On the subject of wearable tech, Walter R. Thompson, the lead author of the survey and associate dean in the College of Education & Human Development at Georgia State University in Atlanta, says, “We can easily monitor heart rate, count steps, track calories and create plans. The data collected by wearable technology can be used to inform the user and their health care team about important daily health metrics like physical activity, and it encourages healthier lifestyle choices.”

Fitness trackers, smart watches, and other wearable technology are most certainly fitness trend we’ll see more of in 2019

  1. Group Training

Let’s face it, working out with others is always going to be more fun than working out on your own! Group training has been a fixture on Ragdale Hall’s fitness timetable for many years, and we continue to introduce innovative classes to provide our guests with fitspiration. Our timetable includes up to 16 daily classes featuring popular disciplines but also several themes unique to Ragdale. We’re in this together *fist pump*!

  1. HIIT

High Intensity Interval Training is the scientifically proven most effective route to achieving shape-up goals. Yes, you heard us right.

The good news is that Ragdale Hall’s fitness timetable offers an unrivalled number of options – HIIT the Waves in the Exercise Pool, HIIT Wheels on/off spin bikes, HIIT Row on/off the Concept 2 and even a unique class created by our very own fitness team, HIIT Yoga. In addition, we were one of the first facilities in the country to introduce the HIIT Mill, a treadmill-type station designed specifically for high intensity interval training.

Older generations making use of gyms is certainly nothing new. However, we’re seeing this trend gain momentum due to more widespread acceptance of the fitness industry, and such things as equipment becoming simpler to use, and easier to set up; better qualified trainers, who can look after older customers and provide them with more specialised training; the desire to find more sociable hobbies, such as the gym and sports, which can lead to fitness groups.

At Ragdale, we have a such a wide range of classes and equipment that we cater for all age groups.

  1. Bodyweight training

Bodyweight training (i.e. pushups, situps, etc.) is becoming more popular because it can be done at home or at a local park with little to no investment. The challenge with bodyweight training is, knowing what to do when the load is too light or too heavy.

For guests who take part in PT sessions, our fitness team always ensure you leave with a fun and engaging workout you can continue at home, or at least until your next visit!
