Sophie’s Flower Co. – How to decorate your home this Christmas
This Christmas, the Hall has been transformed into a festive haven, thanks to local florist and Country Club member, Sophie Cullumbine, founder of Sophie’s Flower Co. Each design has been carefully crafted with locally sourced foliage and seasonal elements from the spa’s own grounds inspired by our bespoke Christmas illustration (shop our Christmas Cards).
Designed to bring the spirit of a traditional English Christmas to life, the installation features a mix of dried seed heads, teasels, hydrangeas, wild carrot, and twisted willow. In collaboration with Head Gardener Lee, Cullumbine carefully foraged for sustainable materials on the estate, resulting in enchanting décor that is as eco-friendly as it is beautiful.
On Tuesday 19th November, we had the pleasure of a cosy afternoon talking all things Christmas decorations in our lounge. Cullumbine walked guests through the making of our beautiful decorations and gave lots of useful tips and tricks on how to recreate at home.
We wanted to share some tips with you:
• Instead of wrapping your tree in lights, cover the front three-quarters in a zig zag motion from bottom to top and bring a straight line of lights down the back of the tree.
• Use chicken wire wrapped in wadding for the most fabulous big bows as seen on our staircase and treetop.
• Command hooks are great for hanging decorations around the hall, Sophie used gutter hooks to hang the velvet swags in our lounge.
• Sophie doesn’t use oasis, instead chicken wire or agra-wool for a more sustainable installation.
• And if budget allows, a potted Christmas tree is the best option for year-on-year displays that can be watered and has less impact on the environment.
