PennyShe’s one of the most well known faces at Ragdale Hall and this month, Guest Liaison Officer, Penny Heeley will celebrate 20 years at Ragdale.

Penny originally joined Ragdale in 1993 as a Fitness Instructor.  She’d been working at a Dance Studio in Nottingham which suddenly closed so she came to Ragdale for an interview and was told “you’re just what we’re looking for – can you start tomorrow?”  The rest, as they say is history!

10 years ago, at the age of 56, Penny decided she wanted a slightly slower pace of life and since she was already so popular with our guests she was the perfect choice for Guest Liaison.  Having worked for so long in the Fitness Department was an added bonus as it helped with all the walking involved in touring guests around the Hall!

Looking back over the last 20 years there have been many memorable moments for Penny, including carrying out a fitness test on singer Kate Bush and being asked to contribute to a book by Radio 4 Woman’s Hour presenter Jenni Murray on how to deal with the menopause (Is It Me Or Is It Hot In Here?).   But, she says, “the reason I’ve stayed at Ragdale for so long is because I just love the feel of the place.  I feel like I’m part of the Ragdale family – I have so many superb colleagues and not to mention our lovely guests.  I honestly think I have the best job in the world!”

Penny is married to Gerry with one son and lives in Mount Pleasant, Keyworth. As well as her 20 years at Ragdale, Penny and Gerry are celebrating their silver wedding anniversary in August and also the recent birth of her second grandchild, Millie.

When Penny started work at Ragdale her goal was to stay for 5 years!  After that she made a new goal every 5 years.  So here’s to another 5 and let’s hope we’ll be celebrating again in 2018!
