How to make your own bath bomb

Why not add a little something extra to your bath time routine with a homemade bath bomb? They’re easy to make, you can customise your own scents and colours and they can add a little zest and fun to a soothing self-care ritual.

Bath Bomb Ingredients

  • 130g baking soda
  • 65g citric acid
  • 65g Epsom salt
  • 65g cornflour
  • 160ml water
  • 2 tsp of your favourite essential oil (we love the relaxing scents of lavender, chamomile or rose)
  • 2 tsp oil (jojoba, sweet almond, coconut olive or even baby oil will work)
  • A few drops of food colouring (optional)
  • A mold of your choice, such as reusable cupcake cases, sweet molds or round plastic molds specifically for bath bombs
  • Optional: Dried flowers or sugar cake decorations, like flowers or stars

Bath bomb recipe

  • With the exception of the citric acid, mix the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Pour all of the liquid ingredients into a jar or bottle with a lid. Screw the lid on tight and shake well.
  • Pour the liquid mixture into the bowl of dry ingredients, and using a wooden spoon combine and meld together. At this point, add the citric acid. You may notice a slight fizzing reaction because of the citric acid, but this is normal.
  • The mixture should be a bit crumbly (similar to the consistency of wet beach sand).
  • Mash the mixture into your chosen molds very tightly. You may slightly overfill the molds and use a spoon or glass to press the mixture in as tightly as possible. Immediately loosen the bombs from their molds and space out on a sheet of greaserproof and let them dry overnight.
  • Give the bath bombs a day or two to completely dry before using them
  • Pop your bath bomb into a warm bath and enjoy the burst of colours and fizz, before taking a few deep breaths to inhale the relaxing aromas.
