Celebrating David, 25 Remarkable Years
Some goodbyes are harder than others, and this one is truly bittersweet.
On Tuesday, 29th April, we will said farewell to our much-loved therapist, David, as he retires after 25 extraordinary years at Ragdale Hall.
Just a few weeks ago, on 4th April 2025, we had the honour of celebrating David’s 25-year anniversary, a milestone that reflects the passion, dedication, and heart he has shared with all of us.
David’s journey into holistic therapy is as inspiring as the man himself.
Years ago, while living in Sydney, Australia with friends, two of whom were holistic therapists, David was introduced to the healing arts, they taught him massage techniques and encouraged him to consider it professionally because they felt it came so natural to him. After 20 years working as a chef in prestigious 3-star Michelin restaurants, he began to feel burnt out and realized it was time to take a new direction.
At 33, he made a bold decision to change careers, spending two and a half years training in Advanced Remedial Massage in Nottingham before pursuing Osteopathy at Oxford Brookes. Although he found the academic side challenging, particularly the exams, David’s ‘give it a go’ attitude kept him moving forward. That determination and spirit have never left him and continue to shine through in his work every day.
When David first joined Ragdale Hall Spa 25 years ago, it was on a temporary 6-month contract. Little did anyone know that this short-term contract would turn into a remarkable journey, spanning a quarter of a century. He built a career that would touch thousands of lives in the most meaningful way.
David is not just a therapist, he is a true healer of the mind, body, and spirit. His work has gone far beyond physical treatments; he has been a listener, a comforter, and a safe space for so many. Whether it was a gentle massage or words of encouragement, his ability to connect with people on such a deep level made every visit a unique experience.
It’s no surprise that many guests would greet him with a smile and say, “I’m ready to be put back together again,” trusting David to help them leave feeling lighter, more balanced, and truly restored. For many, David wasn’t just their therapist, he was a part of their wellness journey, and they became part of his.
David also shares how he approached his role within the team: “I like to lead from the front. I try to inspire others” His leadership and dedication to helping others develop have been evident in the way he has mentored countless colleagues over the years, always encouraging them to find their own paths and grow with confidence.
I asked David, “What advice would you give to new therapists starting out?” He responded with, “It’s a good industry, hard work, but great for developing interpersonal skills. Over the years, I’ve seen employees come in and really blossom; their confidence increases because of the interpersonal skills they pick up.” He also shared, “Stick with it, it’s physical, but worth it. Your body will climatise to the work, and you’ll develop muscle memory. Your body gets into a rhythm as you build your muscles. Over time, it becomes automatic.” David’s encouragement and experience have inspired so many who have followed in his footsteps.
And for those just beginning their journey, David had this to say: “Ragdale is a great starting place, a passport to the world. Working for a spa with a reputation like Ragdale’s will give you the opportunity to go travelling, work on cruise ships and Ragdale will always welcome you back — if you’ve been good!” he says, a cheeky glint in his eyes.
“It’s been wonderful treating people…I’ve had great chats, learning about people’s lives, which is really special. Thank you”
— David, Holistic Therapist
In David’s own words: “It’s been wonderful treating people and meeting such a diverse number of people from all backgrounds. Over the years, I’ve had great chats, learning about people’s lives, which is really special, thank you. And thank you for all of your loyalty, I know plenty of people have come year after year, and I feel I have become part of their lives as much as they have mine. Thank you.”
As David steps into retirement, he does so with a heart full of gratitude and purpose. One of the things he is most looking forward to is having more time to care for his beloved mother, who has always been a big and important part of his life. His compassion, which he so freely gave to all of us here, will now be focused where his heart truly calls him.
David, your gift of healing, your open heart, and your incredible presence have left a legacy that will live on at Ragdale Hall Spa for many years to come. We are endlessly grateful for every moment, every bit of kindness, and every memory you’ve shared with us.
From all of us at Ragdale and every guest who was lucky enough to be “put back together again” thank you, David. You will always be part of our Ragdale family. ❤️
