Start your day with one of our delicious smoothie recipes

Get a refreshing boost of your five-a-day with our chef’s favourite smoothie recipes. Choose your favourite ingredients, place them in a blender, then whizz together until smooth for a fabulous, healthy drink.

Pineapple, blueberry and tofu smoothie

Serves 4

  • 1 pineapple, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 400g (14oz) blueberries
  • 4 bananas
  • 600ml (1 pint) orange juice
  • 6 tbsp sunflower seeds, soaked in mineral water for 1 hour
  • 500g 91lb 2oz) silken tofu, thoroughly rinsed and chopped
  • 2 tbsp clear honey

Beetroot, avocado and mango smoothie

Serves 4

  • 1 avocado, peeled, pitted & chopped
  • 1 mango, peeled, pitted & chopped
  • 1 beetroot (cooked fresh or vacuum packed, not in vinegar)
  • 200g (7oz) low fat natural yoghurt
  • 300ml (1/2 pint) orange juice

Fig, black grape and papaya energy shot

Serves 4

  • 225g (8oz) ripe figs, roughly chopped
  • 1 papaya, peeled, deseeded and chopped
  • 600ml (1 pint) black grape juice
  • 2 tsp grated fresh root ginger

Green karma

Serves 4

  • 1 cucumber, peeled and chopped
  • 4 green apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 small pineapple, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 3 tbsp chopped flat leaf parsley
  • 125g (5oz) low fat natural yogurt
  • 4 strawberries

Apple, cinnamon and peanut smoothie

Serves 2

  • 2 apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 pear, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 2 bananas
  • 300ml (1/2 pint) orange juice
  • 1tbsp peanut butter
  • 100g (4oz) low fat natural yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Tropical Fruit Boost

Serves 2

  • 1 mango, peeled, putted and chopped
  • 1 papaya, peeled, deseeded and chopped
  • 1/2 pineapple, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 2 kiwi fruit, peeled and chopped
  • 1 heaped tsp whatgrass powder (available from a health food shop)
