What is Thai massage?

Traditional Thai massage is an ancient form of massage developed by Buddhist monks some 2500 years ago. It uses passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body’s energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscle and joint tension, and balance the body’s energy systems.

Table Top Thai utilises the exquisite therapeutic benefits of stretches and acupressure’s from traditional Ayurvedic and Thai massage techniques. It can be used as a form of physical therapy to aid in the increase of motion and muscular strength, reducing pain and increasing mobility. Yoga inspired movements work on the body’s energy lines, leaving you feeling de-stressed and re-energised.

Who can benefit from Table Top Thai massage?

Table Top Thai is suitable for most people, but especially those who play a lot of sports as the treatment is brilliant at improving overall flexibility.

What can you expect during a session?

I will usually begin the therapy by having a chat with the individual, to gain some insight into their lifestyle and medical background, and discuss any symptoms they might exhibiting. I would then assess the body through a posture analysis, and from that draw a conclusion and begin the therapy.

Unlike Thai Massage which is carried out on a mat on the floorTable Top Thai is performed on a massage table. We tailor each treatment to the individual, and loose, comfortable clothing is advised. As I move through the therapy, I will move the body into various stretches and positions – it can be both relaxing and energising, so it’s a good choice if you want to be active after your massage.

Although the therapy is carried out on a massage table, the individual will still experience the same level as pressure as they would with a mat-based Thai massage.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment time at Ragdale Hall Spa is 60 minutes, which includes a consultation/diagnosis and treatment.

How regularly should one have Table Top Thai massage?

Most people tend to have it once a month.
