What’s it really like to join our team of therapists?
We know you like to find out more about behind the scenes at Ragdale Hall, so we thought you might like to hear from one of our beauty therapists about what it’s like to become a therapist in our team, which is one of the UK’s biggest, and most highly regarded in the industry (and we hope you agree).
Holly Quinn (pictured above) joined us June this year, after really impressing us and winning our first ever Student of Excellence competition, which we ran with 21 colleges. Holly, from Brooksby Melton College, secured a Beauty Therapist position with us, along with a comprehensive two-year training plan and a substantial cash bonus after one year in the role, (and a spa day with us before she started of course!)
Holly documented her first few months with us which we hope you’ll enjoy reading…
I started at the beginning of June, and leading up to my start date I was beginning to feel really nervous, but as soon as I arrived all of my nerves disappeared as I met Sarah, the induction co-ordinator. She put me straight at ease. I met the other girls who I was going to be starting with and they were all really lovely.
We had a fantastic week, learning specifically about Clarins and Elemis, and getting a real feel for the products by doing facials on each other. We also perfected pedicures and the Lavender Body Treatment, as well as having some massage training from Jon, who has been working with Ragdale for more than 20 years is highly trained and experienced in all areas of massage. It was very helpful to get advice from someone so experienced about how to prevent injury to ourselves when massaging, and the special techniques and consideration needed when massaging pregnant ladies.
The week was very intense, with a lot to take in, and I was a little nervous about applying what I had been learning in the salon. However, as soon as I had treated my first guest I felt more confident and raring to go, and excited to start my first full week in the salon.
I had such a fantastic first week, and loved turning up to work, receiving my schedule and felt excited about performing the treatments. I felt nervous about remembering where all of the different rooms were, but I soon got the hang of it! All of the other therapists have been very friendly and helpful if I have had any questions.
I really started to feel confident about the different treatments and products and already have my favourites! All of the guests have been lovely and I really enjoyed pampering them and giving each one the best treatment that I can. Quite a lot of them have fallen asleep during their treatment – which I think is a good sign!
This was the second week of induction and I learned more treatments. It was nice to spend time with the other girls who I started with, and share our experiences of how we have been getting on.
We learnt all about Decleor, and new treatments such as scalp massage, body exfoliation, manicures and paraffin wax treatments. I’m so excited about putting these treatments into practice and having a more varied day in salon.
Four months on…
I have been at Ragdale Hall for four months now – and it has been a fantastic four months. My days are full and varied and I really feel that my confidence is growing day by day. I love all of the treatments that I do, but what I love most is giving each guest the best treatment that I can and making them feel relaxed and happy. I really enjoy meeting all of the guests and getting to know all different types of people.
I have now completed my Decleor facial training and I will be doing the body part in December. The training was very in-depth and informative and I am so excited for the next part! Team work here is crucial and everyone works hard. We have monthly team meetings which are really important too. I love being part of the Ragdale team – I’m so grateful to have been given such a fantastic experience as working at Ragdale Hall and am very excited for the future ahead!
We’re looking forward to hearing more from Holly as her career with us progresses, and we’re sure her story will inspire beauty students to enter our Student of Excellence competition next year!
