Spa weekends – the ideal tonic to pre-wedding nerves

After the frenetic excitement about the forthcoming royal nuptials, which dominated the headlines recently, it’s safe to assume that weddings – and literally everything to do with them – are going to be extremely topical until at least 29th April next year. And not just for William Windsor and his radiant fiancée Kate Middleton.

Any couple planning a wedding next spring is likely to find the coming months a happy, if incredibly busy, time. But, of course, arranging a wedding can also be extremely stressful, which explains why blushing brides and their mums, bridesmaids, best friends – or even hubby-to-be! – often book some “time out” a week or two before the big day.

And one of the most popular places to spend precious pre-wedding ‘time out’ is in a luxury spa, with its myriad opportunities not only to chill and escape the wedding hype, but also to be pampered and preened. It’s the perfect way to slowly start preparing your mind and body for one of the most special days of your life.

Spa weekends are also an increasingly popular choice for hen parties, offering the bride a rare chance to spend a couple of her last days of singledom in the company of a few of her closest friends at a venue where luxury and indulgence are a given.

How the hen and friends spend their time in the ultra-relaxing, super-serene spa environment is up to them – chatting at leisure by the pool or in the steam room… burning off a few calories as they try out a new type of dance class … or sampling a sumptious new spa or beauty treatment. One thing is for sure: they’ll be spoilt for choice!

The good news is that there are pamper packages aplenty, with many UK spa health resorts offering group reductions on spa days and breaks, which are ideal for hen and pre-wedding groups. These special packages generally combine selected spa treatments and activities with full use of the spa’s pool and other luxury facilities.

No doubt William and Kate will have a crew of paid advisors on hand to help steer them through the choppy wedding planning waters ahead. As you contemplate the months left in the lead-up to your big day, here’s some free advice: seriously consider booking a spa weekend for just before the event, and keep the lid on your pre-nuptial stress levels.
