Liam Tancock, Ragdale Hall’s sponsored swimmer retained his World Champion title after winning gold in the 50 m backstroke at the World Swimming Championships in Shanghai this week.
He previously won gold in Rome two years ago, when he also swam a world record time which has yet to be beaten.
Liam who is based at Loughborough Universiry said after winning “when I became World Champion in 2009 it was a special moment standing on the podium listening to the national anthem. To do it again against such tough opposition – I loved it”.
Whilst he can call himself the fastest backstroke swimmer on earth, he still needs to up his game for the olympics in London next year as 50m is not an Olympic distance and he’ll be competing in the 100m.
“My training won’t change. The 100m is the Olympic event and I finished sixth in that here. It has been and will be always my focus”.
Liam is often to be seen relaxing at Ragdale when his schedule allows.
We all wish him well for the year ahead.
