Back then, a week’s stay cost just £60-£70, with The Hall’s 80 staff on hand to look after your every whim. Such was the buzz around the place, advertising strap lines of the 70s snappily proclaimed it as “a beautiful way to slim”.
By 1985, the ‘glamour’ years were marked with the opening of our first indoor pool, allowing the nation’s overworked and stressed to get away from the franticness of modern life and indulge in the haven of Ragdale’s sumptuous surroundings.
It’s not all been plain sailing, though, as, the early 90s saw ownership swap hands and expansion plans delayed while these issues were resolved. But one thing never changed during these moments of upheaval: the friendly welcome guests are guaranteed at Ragdale Hall.
Throughout the mid-90s, we enjoyed a period of consolidation and development as a three year project to improve infrastructure and build additional bedrooms to deal with demand came to fruition.
This expansion was punctuated with our 25th anniversary, the unveiling of “one of the most spectacular pools ever built in this country”, and a new state of the art gymnasium, offering our guests unrivalled access to some of the finest fitness facilities in the UK.
By 2001, our team were preparing to open our biggest building yet, which would house numerous treatment rooms, the Verandah Bar and 24 additional bedrooms. As always, concentrating on the needs of our guests was paramount during the development.
However, in 2003, our 30th anniversary celebrations were rocked with the sad news that our co-owner, Garry Nesbitt, had lost his courageous battle against leukaemia. Happily, though, the Nesbitt family – Garry’s widow, Penny, and his eldest son, Tristan – are still actively involved here at Ragdale.
In the last ten years we’ve gone from strength to strength, picking up countless awards, being listed in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For and implementing pioneering treatments, culminating with the opening of our Beauty Express in March of this year.
As we enter our fifth decade as a spa, the future of Ragdale Hall could not be safer, with the vast experience of our team and owners committed to helping us to innovate and evolve.
Here’s to another 40 years…
