Can you remember what you were doing in the summer of 1996? These four people can because they were all starting in their new roles with us here at Ragdale! Twenty years on, they’re all still enjoying their work here and don’t want to work anywhere else.
Lynne-Marie Gallagher started out with us as a casual beauty therapist, relocating from her home city of York, having heard that Ragdale Hall was the most highly recommended place to in the UK to pursue a career in the beauty industry. Lynne-Marie’s successful career has proved she made the right choice, and she is now our Beauty Training and Development Supervisor, coordinating training for our beauty team and recruiting new therapists, working with around 200 colleges.
Lynne-Marie said: “One of the biggest changes during my time at Ragdale has been the introduction of computerised systems – when I first started, guest treatment schedules and therapists’ timetables were done manually on huge sheets of paper!” She added: “Having started out as a beauty therapist, it’s great to be able to share my experience in the industry with students and trainees and show what opportunities there are to develop – and I believe Ragdale Hall is still by far the best place in the UK for a career in the beauty industry.”
When Lynne-Marie’s not working she’s a busy mum of three but also enjoys going to the theatre, walking her rescue dog, Ria, and watching a good action movie while sipping a glass of wine (and we second that!)
Malcolm Bowes began here as a night spa cleaner back in August that year, and has seen the spa develop extensively, with the Thermal Spa, new pools and changing areas being built. Even the most regular of our guests may still not get to see Malcolm, as he works from 10.00pm through until 8.00am. He and the night team maintain the high level of cleanliness in the spa area while you’re all asleep! He said: “It can get very quiet during the night but as it is such a large area to cover it keeps us very busy.” To relax Malcolm takes great pride in his garden and looking after his many koi carp.
You probably have, however, spotted senior waitress, Mary Alldridge, as being our Dining Room door host, welcoming new and returning guests is part of her role (and one of the things she likes most). She also has the very important job of making sure we don’t run out of wine among her priorities, and so keeps the supplies coming in on time! Mary loves meeting people through her job and, importantly, ensuring that your special dietary requirements and preferences are accommodated.
Mary enjoys travelling, especially exotic places, and her next holiday is a trip to Australia later this year.
Maintenance Supervisor Alan Carter is celebrating 20 years with us as part of our dedicated Maintenance Team who ensure all of our facilities and 93 guest bedrooms are kept in exceptional condition. An essential part of Alan’s daily routine is making sure all the pools are in tip top condition, including the cleanliness, ph and temperature of the water. And twice a week he even gets to have a paddle as he performs his physical checks, inspecting the pools close up for any areas which may need attention.
Alan prefers to keep out of the limelight, but recently installed the new fire pit on the Verandah Bar terrace (doesn’t it look great?!), so we were able to catch up with him for a photo!
They are part of a growing team of loyal staff who have contributed to our success over the years and continue to do so – congratulations to them all.
We have around 500 full and part-time staff in a diverse range of roles – so if you’re interested in finding out more about our current vacancies click here.
