Swathes of new academic research has revealed that positive thinking can create real value in your life, helping you build new skills that will be there long after the initial thought or smile has dissipated.

In fact, a study carried out by Barbara Fredrickson, a positive psychology researcher at the University of North Carolina, suggests that experiencing positive emotions like joy, contentment and love opens your mind to more possibilities.

What We Think We Create

Put simply, your thoughts and your words are energy waves, sending out a clear message to the Universe. When you add your emotions behind your thoughts and your words, you’re putting a huge amount of energy into the message.

However, if you’re constantly full of negative thoughts, you’ll create negative situations. If you use negative words and criticise others, you’ll experience negative words and be criticised.

Turn it around, and instead of negative thoughts and words, replace them with positive thoughts and words – same results! The Universe does not reward or punish – energy is energy, whether negative or positive, it remains the same.

Increase Positive Thoughts

Boosting your positive emotions and taking advantage of the endless possibilities is only achievable if you have the commitment and overwhelming desire to always look on the bright side of life.

Wherever feelings of joy, contentment and love come from, whether it’s spending time with family, walking your dog or singing in a choir, it’s important to fill your life with a steady stream of activities that inspire positivity.

The Power of Meditation

Here’s a great way to get started …

Before falling asleep, in a relaxed, drowsy, meditative state, think positive thoughts, repeat affirmations, visualise your happy ending. Your body sleeps, but your subconscious mind doesn’t, it will bring your divine desires to you. Sleep in peace and you will awaken in joy.

In addition to the above, try to keep the points below in mind:

  • Be in the here and now, in this present moment of time, fully aware. Fully present. You’re drained when you live in the past. You did your best with the knowledge you had. Let go of the past.
  • Do not worry about the future or live in your future. It’s your thoughts, words, actions of now that create your future.
  • Any blockages in your life that you appear to be experiencing will be overcome.
  • Everything happens for a reason.
  • Behind every experience is a lesson. An opportunity to choose love and compassion.
  • You will be guided and helped. As one door closes another will open.
