Could you be our next Student of Excellence?
You may know we offer a wide range of treatments here at Ragdale Hall, but did you know we have a team of around 140 therapists – that’s almost a small army!
We work closely with many colleges around the UK to develop and nurture Beauty students, as they may well be our therapists of the future. Of these colleges there are 27 which have ‘Ragdale Hall College of Excellence’ status as they meet our strict training criteria.
One of the great benefits of being a College of Excellence is they are eligible to enter our annual Student of Excellence competition, where the winning student is awarded a Beauty Therapist position with us, along with a fantastic employment package, training and a cash bonus after a year in the role.
Earlier this year we hosted the final of the 2017 competition and 11 finalists battled it out for first place. The finalists performed a body massage and manicure, sat a difficult theory exam, and underwent an extensive one-to-one interview with a member of Ragdale’s Recruitment Team.
You may recall we announced Alicia Penney (pictured above) from North Warwickshire and Hinkley College scooped the top prize. At the time she told us: “I’ve wanted to become a Ragdale Hall Beauty Therapist since visiting Ragdale Hall with my mum and sister as a guest when I was 16,” so it really was dream come true for her.
As we’re about to launch our next Student of Excellence competition, we thought it would be great to catch up with Alicia to find out what her first few months working with us have been like…
She told us: “My first three months at Ragdale, have been a really wonderful introduction into a spa and the busy working day of a beauty therapist! I feel that my skills have grown already. Not only have I learnt about Clarins, Decleor, Elemis, OPI and Spa Find professional products, I have also been coached in how to perform the treatments, using techniques specific to the brand, or giving them a Ragdale twist to make them special. I have also learnt how crucial it is to be organised and on top of everything all the time.
“My typical day at Ragdale begins at around 8:45am when I collect my schedule and prepare myself for the day ahead. My first treatment may be a Face and Back Therapy followed by a Luxury Pedicure. I’ll then have a rest break and then a Full Body Massage and a Body Scrub before having my lunch. After lunch I may have a Scalp Massage, a Manicure, and then another rest break. At the end of my day I may have another Face and Back Therapy and finish with a facial. Being able to treat and pamper a guest is a lovely skill to have, and knowing that you’re a part of an elite team of therapists gives a lot of job satisfaction.
“Personally, my favourite treatments to do are facials. I love being able to help people with their skin and give them beautiful glowing complexions.
“Working at Ragdale is demanding but it is also wonderfully gratifying and I think any therapist should experience life at Ragdale Hall in order to expand their horizons and not only gain therapist skills, but personal skills too. The opportunities to progress at Ragdale are second-to-none too, with the option to go onto, for example, supervisory roles, Account Development Executive roles, or training for the Beauty Shop or the Beauty Express.
“The support you get is amazing, from all the other therapists and from the beauty supervisors, helping your day to go as smoothly as possible. The atmosphere inspires you, and you really feel part of a team.”
We’ll be launching our next competition soon to find our 2018 Student of Excellence. According to Alicia (pictured above taking part in our last competition) it is an enjoyable experience, despite so much being at stake, as she added: “Even though we were all competing against each other, all the girls were very friendly and it’s been great to meet like-minded people as we all want to be the best we can be, and successful in our careers in beauty.”
